Infants

Infants (6 weeks to ~ 18 months old)

    Staff to child ratio: 1:4

School-9During infancy, children need deep connections with each person who cares for them. The heart of the care our infant teachers provide is the building of a relationship between a child, a caregiver and the child’s parents. The primary caregiver assigned to the baby is responsible for the child’s care routines, observations, and communication with families. Infants learn through warm, respectful and loving interaction with the adults around them. This type of interaction can be seen as the staff talks to each baby during diaper changing, feeding time and when placed in their crib to rest. We place a high degree of importance on treating each baby as an individual with unique needs and a personal daily schedule for infants younger than twelve months.

Our infant curriculum is designed to meet the specific needs of each child and family, maintain established home schedules, and help our children reach important developmental milestones. The daily program offers many stimulating experiences for the infant such as reading books, music, art activities, and gross motor play. Infants are given a variety of spaces to explore both outside, weather-permitting, on a screened-in porch, the outdoor play yard or on buggy rides around the beautiful, wooded campus.

We consider parents the child’s first and best teacher and our partners. The Center welcomes and encourages calls from parents or drop-by visits during the day. Nursing mothers are welcome to come in for feedings as work schedules permit

“Infancy is a vulnerable stage of development, therefore, it’s not enough that babies receive good care, the care must be excellent.” – Magda Gerber
